DESCRIPTION:Members and friends of the Art Deco Society are welcome to the grand opening of Highrises: The Luhrs Legacy & Southwestern Art Deco\, a unique gallery and exhibit featuring the works of digital artist Chris Hytha and supplemental history exhibits on the Luhrs family legacy and the history of Art Deco. \nThis exclusive grand opening party open house will be one to remember! Support the Art Deco Society by joining us for a drink\, participating in our silent auction\, and hearing from the artist in a unique presentation about the project. Lovers of art\, architecture\, and history are sure to love this special viewing located inside the Luhrs Tower! \n  \nSchedule of Events  \n7:00pm – Reception open \n7:30pm – Artist presentation \n8:00pm –Gallery viewing \n9:00pm – Silent auction closes \n9:30pm – Doors close \n  \nWhen: May 2nd\, 2025 \nTime: 7pm-9:30pm \nLocation: Luhrs Tower\, 2nd floor: 45 W Jefferson St\, Phoenix\, AZ 85003. \nParking: Guests are responsible for their own parking. Parking available on the street or bhund the Luhrs Tower in the Luhrs Parking Garage. \n  \nYour ticket includes first access to the pop-up exhibit\, 2 drink tickets (wine bar)\, the artist presentation\, silent auction\, and mingling with our community of Art Deco enthusiasts. Meet our volunteers at the Luhrs Tower lobby\, who will guide you to the exhibit space. \n \n \nWhat is Highrises? \nDiscover the details of towering Jazz Age gems as you’ve never seen them before with digital artist Chris Hytha and skyscraper historian Mark Houser. The Luhrs Tower takes center stage in this unique art and history pop-up exhibit hosted by the Phoenix Art Deco Society. \nFor the entire month of May\, come see us inside the Art Deco Luhr’s Tower to view Chris Hytha’s traveling exhibit showcasing curated pieces of his collection that highlight southwestern influence on Art Deco design paired with a history exhibit on the Luhr’s family and the history of Phoenix in the 1920s and 1930s. \nDon’t want to make the grand opening? DESCRIPTION:We are proud to partner with the Biltmore to invite members and friends to a formal cocktail affair. This elegant experience will include your first drink AND an opportunity to enjoy your cocktails inside the Mystery Room\, the Biltmore’s authentic 1920s speakeasy with the Biltmore’s lead historian. Learn about the speakeasy and Biltmore’s charming history. Spend a while with the Art Deco Society in our reserved section in the Wright Bar lounge\, sip on a special craft cocktail made just for this celebration\, and take in the beauty of the Jewel of the Desert. \nWe are celebrating in style this evening. Our dress code is vintage\, cocktail\, or formal attire.  \n  \nYour ticket includes\n \n\nWelcome cocktail\nTake your cocktail up to the Mystery Room!\n\nPaired with a mini history tour of the speakeasy. (appx 20 mins – limited capacity in the Mystery Room so that all guests have the opportunity to enjoy!\n\n\nAccess to the Society’s reserved lounge section\nLive music in the lobby bar – Kristofer Hill on Spanish guitar\n\nThe tour group to go up to the Mystery Room will be small. To accommodate everyone\, guests will rotate on tours that last approximately 20 minutes. Please buy your tickets in advance to help us coordinate. \n  \nScenes from the history Mystery Room…Secretly built in 1929\, the Mystery Room dazzles and delights as an authentic speakeasy. Framed by iconic Biltmore blocks\, the room features the original fireplace and a bookshelf that opens up to a bar. \n \n\nWhat are we celebrating?\nApril 28th commemorates the opening of the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs et Industrials Moderne in Paris\,where Art Deco made its first international debut.
