SUMMARY:Deco Day at Salt River Fields Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Join the Phoenix Art Deco Society for a meet-up at Salt River Fields for some baseball on the Lawn for the Arizona Diamondbacks vs Cleveland Guardians game! Bring some class to the park – dress in your vintage best – bring your blankets\, sun hats\, and get ready to root for the home team! \nWhy are we having an outing at a ball game? Check out our blog on the brief history of Spring Training in Greater Phoenix! \nAll guests are invited to purchase their own tickets. We will be sitting on the lawn which is general admission.  \nThe Lawn at Salt River Field offers a unique opportunity to view a Major League Baseball game during spring training. All lawn tickets are general admission.  Your ticket may indicate\, a section\, row or seat location but that is for inventory purposes only.  This area is first come\, first served.  Reserving areas is not allowed.  You may bring blanket(s) to sit on.  No elevated chairs\, shade structures or umbrellas of any kind are allowed. \nFAQS about Salt River Fields HERE. \n  \nDetails: \nWhen: Sunday\, March 1st at 1:10pm; Meeting outside the stadium at 12:30pm center field gate \nWhere: Salt River Fields at Talking Stick: 7555 N Pima Rd\, Scottsdale\, AZ 85258 center field gate \nPrice: $23.00 \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nWhat to Expect in the Lawn \nWhile\, you won’t have an actual seat\, many fans bring blankets to sit or lay on in the lawn at Salt River Field. There are plenty of options for concessions in the center field plaza located in between the left and right field lawn sections. \nThere’s a good chance it will be sunny in the lawn sections so be sure to pack some sunscreen. If you forget\, don’t worry there are typically tow carts in the lawn area that distribute complimentary sunscreen to make your experience that much better. \nOne of the most exciting elements of a baseball game is the chance to catch a home run. Lawn seats provide an excellent opportunity to catch a home run ball\, especially during a game that is less crowded. \nKids 2 & Under are free.\nSalt River Fields is a cashless facility. All payments (parking\, concessions\, merchandise\, etc.) must be paid via credit/debit card. \nFAQS about Salt River Fields HERE. \n  \nBaseball and Phoenix have quite the history. \nSpring Training in Arizona began taking shape in the late 1940s\, when Cleveland Indians owner Bill Veeck moved his team to Tucson in 1947\, motivated partly by his desire to spare newly signed Larry Doby from the segregation of the Jim Crow South. Giants owner Horace Stoneham soon followed\, influenced by Veeck and by the healing mineral springs at Mesa’s famous Buckhorn Baths. Their arrival established the foundation of what became the Cactus League. \nThroughout the 1950s–70s\, more Major League clubs—including the Cubs\, Orioles\, Angels\, A’s\, Padres\, and others—moved their spring operations to Arizona\, supported by new ballparks and strong local investment. By the 1990s and 2000s\, modern shared complexes helped fuel rapid expansion. \nToday\, the Cactus League hosts 15 teams\, matching Florida’s Grapefruit League\, and remains a major part of baseball culture. Its early years left a unique legacy shaped by iconic players\, integrated accommodations at the Buckhorn Baths\, and the growth of Arizona into a premier spring training destination. \nLearn more in our blog post!
