SUMMARY:Cocktails of the Deco Era: A Taste of Prohibition
DESCRIPTION:Indulge in Art Deco’s liquid legacy with this cocktail-tasting experience.\nEnter a different time when skirts were shorter\, jazz was hotter\, the cocktails were stronger…and there were ostriches.  That’s right. Ostriches. \nTake a journey through 1920s Arizona\, one sip at a time\, during this luxurious cocktail-tasting experience hosted by The Ostrich Bar in Chandler\, Arizona\, which sits right underneath the historic San Marco’s Hotel. Chandler has a unique history\, and it all started with founder Dr. AJ Chandler bringing his veterinary practice and ostrich ranch to Chandler’s desert landscape. As the city grew\, Dr. AJ Chandler chose to store his Ostrich feathers in the large basement of the newly built San Marcos Hotel. And if we know anything about basements during the Jazz Age\, we know that they are the perfect location for a speakeasy. Looking closely\, you may even see bricked-up doorways that once led to an underground tunnel system in the city. It’s hard not to believe that this was a place for the occasional drink or illicit activities during Prohibition. \nSo wear your finest dress or suit\, bring your friends\, enjoy excellent historic cocktails\, and learn about prohibition in Chandler during the Art Deco Era. Your ticket includes a two-hour cocktail-tasting experience where you will be led on a journey through these classic prohibition-era cocktails and some with a modern twist. You’ll learn about their origin and why they have stood the test of time! \nAnd if that’s not enough\, know that the party doesn’t stop after the tasting! Stay a while for more drinks\, a bite to eat\, and live jazz with the Society! If you can’t make the tasting\, join us for the live music\, which is open to the public.
