SUMMARY:ADSNY Virtual Event: Rose Iron Works and an Art Deco Masterpiece
DESCRIPTION:Bob will provide a brief review of his family business as the leading American Art Deco metalwork firm in the 1920s and 30. Then he will take us step by step into the design and creation of two new Muse screens one hundred years after the original creation. Bob will share stories about the decisions involved in accepting such a commission\, the many aspects involved in designing the new works and the techniques\, processes and tools used in their creation. \nBob Rose \nBob Rose is the current and third family generation president of Rose Iron Works\, an acclaimed leader in high end decorative and Deco metalwork. The Northeast Ohio blacksmith studio\, founded in 1904 has played a significant role in the design and production of important Art Deco metalwork pieces. Bob calls upon a formal background in Mechanical Engineering combined with a lifetime of artistic involvement\, to direct the decorative work of Rose Metal Industries. One of Bob’s passions is to spread the word about his family’s contribution to design and craftsmanship during the heyday of Art Deco. DESCRIPTION:Join the Los Angeles Art Deco Society for a virtual presentation by Beth Murray\, the President of the California Historic Route 66 Association to learn what it was like to travel the Mother Road in its early days before it was even fully paved by Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration (WPA) Depression-era workers. \nBeth Murray \nBeth Murray calls herself a “Pursuer of the Unusual\, Photographer of the Road..” Her passions lie with Route 66\, the Old Cruise Ships\, Muffler Men\, Cats and Photography. After her husband died\, Beth bought herself a camera and started traveling this old world of ours and documenting the ever changing environment in which we live. Here in America\, we do not keep the old\, so once it has been razed it is gone for good.
