DESCRIPTION:Bob will provide a brief review of his family business as the leading American Art Deco metalwork firm in the 1920s and 30. Then he will take us step by step into the design and creation of two new Muse screens one hundred years after the original creation. Bob will share stories about the decisions involved in accepting such a commission\, the many aspects involved in designing the new works and the techniques\, processes and tools used in their creation. \nBob Rose \nBob Rose is the current and third family generation president of Rose Iron Works\, an acclaimed leader in high end decorative and Deco metalwork. The Northeast Ohio blacksmith studio\, founded in 1904 has played a significant role in the design and production of important Art Deco metalwork pieces. Bob calls upon a formal background in Mechanical Engineering combined with a lifetime of artistic involvement\, to direct the decorative work of Rose Metal Industries. One of Bob’s passions is to spread the word about his family’s contribution to design and craftsmanship during the heyday of Art Deco. After her husband died\, Beth bought herself a camera and started traveling this old world of ours and documenting the ever changing environment in which we live. Here in America\, we do not keep the old\, so once it has been razed it is gone for good. When Mimi meets dashing performer Guy Holden (Fred Astaire)\, sparks fly\, and\, most importantly\, lavish song-and-dance numbers ensue. DESCRIPTION:By popular demand\, we have scheduled a private tour for the Art Deco Society of the historic Orpheum Theatre. Located in Downtown Phoenix\, the Orpheum Theatre is a fully restored 1929 atmospheric theatre\, featuring a magnificent disappearing Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. This tour will provide access to both public and behind-the-scenes areas\, offering a rare glimpse into the magic of a historic movie palace. \n  \nA Brief History \nOpening on January 5\, 1929\, it was the pride of Phoenix\, a town of 48\,000. It had 1\,800 seats and an early form of air conditioning\, which made it the place to see an be seen in the city! Its 101 feet of stage width and 28 feet of depth made the Orpheum the only theatre between Los Angeles and Denver able to handle the traveling vaudeville shows that changed weekly. \nDesigned by architects Lescher & Mahoney\, the theatre was built for $750\,000 by Jo E. Rickards and Harry Nace. The Orpheum was designed in the atmospheric style\, with the audience sitting in a garden surrounded by Spanish-style buildings\, murals of mountains\, and forests\, under puffy white clouds moving across a deep blue domed sky. \nFor more information\, check out their website here. \n  \nDETAILS \nMembers get Priority Access to this event. Join members of the Art Deco Society for an evening of cocktails and connection at the former Professional Building (now\, the Downtown Phoenix Hilton Garden Inn) lobby bar\, Monroe’s!  \nThis is a no-host gathering for members and those interested in Art Deco\, where we will gather and enjoy the ambiance of one of Phoenix’s most extravagant Art Deco lobbies. No reservation required\, just show up! Vintage or vintage attire is encouraged\, but not required. All guests are responsible for their own bar tabs. We look forward to seeing you there.  \nAbout the Professional Building: \nThe Professional Building was completed in 1932 by the architectural firm of Morgan\, Walls\, & Clements\, originally constructed as the “National Valley Bank” building. The bank resided on the ground floor\, and other floors of the high-rise were reserved for medical offices. It’s impossible not to notice the original brass elevators and marble floors that invite you to the large open-air lobby. This interior was vacant for two decades until it was renovated and restored to its former glory\, featuring stunning Art Deco pillars and zig-zag motifs replicated in the original color scheme.  \nSince 2013\, Hilton Garden Inn takes over the entire building with a modest bar\, Monroe’s\, on the ground floor with lounge and cocktail seating.
