DESCRIPTION:Join the Art Deco Society Film Club’s next featured event! \n  \nJoin us for spooky season a bit early this year with costumes\, libations\, and a feature Hallowe’en film screening at the historic Hotel San Carlos. Your ticket includes access to our first Hallowe’en Soiree with themed libations\, treats\, costume contest\, silent films\, games\, feature film screening\, and more all in the historic 1928 Hotel San Carlos Ballroom! Mingle with fellow Art Deco members and film fanatics before and after the screening. \n  \nFeature Film: Mad Love (1935) \nOur featured movie is Mad Love (1935)\, starring beloved character actor\, Peter Lorre.  It’s a terrifying tale of love\, obsession\, and the need for better oversight of experimental medical treatments.  Peter Lorre stars as Dr. Gogol\, whose unrequited love for an actress (Frances Drake) is tested when her pianist husband (Colin Clive) has his hands crushed in a train accident.  What else is to be done but use the hands of a convicted killer? The movie was based on a book and silent film\, the Hands of Orlac.  Since Mad Love\, the plot has been used in several movies and television shows\, including The Simpsons.  Join us for a viewing of a jewel of the 1930’s horror scene! DESCRIPTION:Put on your glad rags\, pack your baskets\, and join the Phoenix Art Deco Society in partnership with the Phoenix Vintage Society for our second edition of Jazz Age Picnic in the Park! \n  \nStep back in time for this acoustic trad-jazz concert\, just like it would have been in Encanto Park years ago. \n  \nBring your own blankets and chairs\, bring your full picnic baskets\, and have a lovely afternoon concert on the lawn. Enjoy vintage lawn games like bowling\, croquet\, giant chess\, and more! We encourage you to get in on the vintage fun and create vintage-themed picnic set-ups\, and put on your vintage or vintage-inspired attire! Alcohol is not permitted in the parks.
