SUMMARY:Jazz Age Book Club: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
DESCRIPTION:The Phoenix Art Deco Society is excited to welcome members to the third edition of the Jazz Age Book Club hosted by Art Deco Society member\, Professor Scott Hermanson and Art Deco Society board member Jessica Kullman. Learn more about the book club here.  \nIf you love literature\, this event is for you! Bring your thoughts\, opinions\, and questions\, and connect with fellow members – avid or casual readers are welcome. \n  \nAbout the Book: \nThis wickedly clever novel follows Lorelei Lee\, a blonde from Little Rock\, Arkansas\, as she chronicles her adventures pursuing wealthy men across New York and Europe in her delightfully misspelled diary. Lorelei seems like the ultimate “dumb blonde” except she somehow always ends up with the diamonds while the supposedly smart men end up broke. Coincidence? You decide. \n  \nHow to Participate \n1. Reserve your spot! Email erin@phoenixartdeco.org. \n2. Don’t have the book? We recommend shopping local or supporting your local library! \n–Changing Hands \n–Book Gallery \n–Bookmans \n3. Read Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in it’s entirety \n4. Enjoy historical and contextual information sent from the club chairs before the discussion \n6. Join us for the guided discussion over coffee and/or cocktails \nPLEASE NOTE: This event is limited capacity due to the nature of the book club. \n  \nThe Details: \nWhen: June 21st\, 2026 – 12pm \nWhere: Firecreek Coffee\, Phoenix

SUMMARY:Film Screening: My Man Godfrey
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a matinee Phoenix Art Deco Film Club screening of comedy My Man Godfrey (1936)! Enjoy drinks and bites from the Newton Book Bar and pre-show trivia and introduction by our Film Club. \nAbout the film: \nIn the depths of the Depression\, a party game brings dizzy socialite Irene Bullock to the city dump where she meets Godfrey\, a derelict\, and ends by hiring him as family butler. He finds the Bullocks to be the epitome of idle rich\, and nutty as the proverbial fruitcake. Soon\, the dramatizing Irene is in love with her ‘protege’…who feels strongly that a romance between servant and employer is out of place\, regardless of that servant’s mysterious past... (IMBD) \n \nWhen: Sunday\, July 19\, 2026 \nTime: 3:30pm doors; 4:00pm show time \nWhere: The Newton 300 W Camelback Rd\, Phoenix\, AZ 85013 \nTickets: $10 for members\, $15 for non-members \nOpen seating in this pop-up movie experience! \n  \n\nLog-in to access the member ticket page. Not a member? Join today! \n    \n  \nWe appreciate that member tickets are only purchased for members. We operate as an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization. All proceeds go back to the non-profit to cover costs for this and future film screenings. \n  \nAbout the Newton: \nAn adaptive reuse project by Venue Projects\, LLC and John Douglas Architects\, The Newton is a mixed-use concept housed inside Phoenix’s former (but iconic) 1950s Beef Eaters building. Named after Beef Eaters’ Founder Jay Newton\, today The Newton is a place where people can read\, dine\, gather\, and shop. \nThe Newton is home to the Phoenix location of Changing Hands Bookstore\, Southern Rail Restaurant\, and Christofolo Schermer Consulting.  The Newton is also an event venue\, with two private event spaces available for private events and parties.

The bank resided on the ground floor\, and other floors of the high-rise were reserved for medical offices. It’s impossible not to notice the original brass elevators and marble floors that invite you to the large open-air lobby. This interior was vacant for two decades until it was renovated and restored to its former glory\, featuring stunning Art Deco pillars and zig-zag motifs replicated in the original color scheme. \nSince 2013\, Hilton Garden Inn takes over the entire building with a modest bar\, Monroe’s\, on the ground floor with lounge and cocktail seating. Monroe’s offers a full-service bar menu and a place for guests to relax and unwind. In addition to some tasty beverages\, we also serve a selection of upscale bar-food ranging from burgers and wings to tacos and salad.
