Feature Film: Mad Love (1935)
Our featured movie is Mad Love (1935), starring beloved character actor, Peter Lorre. It’s a terrifying tale of love, obsession, and the need for better oversight of experimental medical treatments. Peter Lorre stars as Dr. Gogol, whose unrequited love for an actress (Frances Drake) is tested when her pianist husband (Colin Clive) has his hands crushed in a train accident. What else is to be done but use the hands of a convicted killer? The movie was based on a book and silent film, the Hands of Orlac. Since Mad Love, the plot has been used in several movies and television shows, including The Simpsons. Join us for a viewing of a jewel of the 1930’s horror scene!
