Join the Art Deco Society Film Club’s next featured event!

Join us for spooky season a bit early this year with costumes, libations, and a feature Hallowe’en film screening at the historic Hotel San Carlos. Your ticket includes access to our first Hallowe’en Soiree with themed libations, treats, costume contest, silent films, games, feature film screening, and more all in the historic 1928 Hotel San Carlos Ballroom! Mingle with fellow Art Deco members and film fanatics before and after the screening.

Feature Film: Mad Love (1935)

Our featured movie is Mad Love (1935), starring beloved character actor, Peter Lorre.  It’s a terrifying tale of love, obsession, and the need for better oversight of experimental medical treatments.  Peter Lorre stars as Dr. Gogol, whose unrequited love for an actress (Frances Drake) is tested when her pianist husband (Colin Clive) has his hands crushed in a train accident.  What else is to be done but use the hands of a convicted killer? The movie was based on a book and silent film, the Hands of Orlac.  Since Mad Love, the plot has been used in several movies and television shows, including The Simpsons.  Join us for a viewing of a jewel of the 1930’s horror scene! (Run Time: 1 hour)

Attire:

Get into the spirit with a Hallowe’en costume or themed clothing. We encourage you to wear costumes that would have existed in 1920s and 30s, come as your favorite Old Hollywood star, or wear your vintage/vintage inspired glad-rags! The costume contest will be audience judged and prizes will be awarded for Best Hallowe’en Costume and Best True Vintage. Get creative!
