New York City, 1930s. The Great Depression has brought the nation’s greatest metropolis to its knees. Unemployment soars, bread lines stretch around city blocks, and despair settles over neighborhoods from the Bronx to Brooklyn. Yet out of this hardship will emerge some of the most extraordinary architecture and public works New York City has ever seen.

Join architectural historian Matt Postal and the Art Deco Society of New York for an illustrated talk exploring how these remarkable achievements came to be and why, nearly a century later, they still matter.
