Film Screening: My Man Godfrey

July 19, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
$10 – $15

Join us for a matinee Phoenix Art Deco Film Club screening of comedy My Man Godfrey (1936)! Enjoy drinks and bites from the Newton Book Bar and pre-show trivia and introduction by our Film Club.

About the film:

In the depths of the Depression, a party game brings dizzy socialite Irene Bullock to the city dump where she meets Godfrey, a derelict, and ends by hiring him as family butler. He finds the Bullocks to be the epitome of idle rich, and nutty as the proverbial fruitcake. Soon, the dramatizing Irene is in love with her ‘protege’…who feels strongly that a romance between servant and employer is out of place, regardless of that servant’s mysterious past... (IMBD)

About the Newton:

An adaptive reuse project by Venue Projects, LLC and John Douglas Architects, The Newton is a mixed-use concept housed inside Phoenix’s former (but iconic) 1950s Beef Eaters building. Named after Beef Eaters’ Founder Jay Newton, today The Newton is a place where people can read, dine, gather, and shop.

The Newton is home to the Phoenix location of Changing Hands Bookstore, Southern Rail Restaurant, and Christofolo Schermer Consulting.  The Newton is also an event venue, with two private event spaces available for private events and parties.
